ISLAMABAD: Pakistan recorded 55 fresh cases of Covid-19 in the past 24 hours, according to the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC). The positivity ratio of the disease remained at 1.43%. No deaths were reported due to Covid-19 in the same period.

The NCOC shared that 3,836 Covid-19 tests were conducted in the past 24 hours, out of which 55 were found to be positive.

The NCOC has recommended wearing masks in crowded and tightly enclosed spaces and healthcare facilities, as 26 Covid-19 patients remain in critical condition in the country.

The guidelines have been issued for the period up to April 30, 2023, in view of the current Covid-19 trend across the country.

The National Institute of Health (NIH) confirmed the presence of a new sub-variant of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus, XBB, in the country.

The NIH stated in January that the sub-variant had been present in the country for the past three months.

Vaccination against Covid-19

Pakistan has been grappling with the Covid-19 pandemic since early 2020, with over 1.2 million confirmed cases and over 26,000 deaths reported to date.

The country has been carrying out vaccination campaigns to inoculate its population against the virus.

As of April 2, 2023, over 42 million vaccine doses have been administered countrywide, with over 13 million people being fully vaccinated.

The government has been urging people to continue adhering to Covid-19 SOPs, including wearing masks, practicing social distancing, and getting vaccinated. The country has been facing a surge in cases in recent weeks, prompting the government to take necessary measures to curb the spread of the virus.

The situation is being closely monitored by the NCOC, which has been sharing regular updates on the Covid-19 situation in the country.
