ISLAMABAD: Health officials on Wednesday said that forty-nine new coronavirus cases were reported during the last twenty-four hours across the country.
According to the data released by the National Institute of Health (NIH), the case positivity ratio was 1.38%, while 24 patients were in critical condition.
No death was reported from the virus in the same period while 3,562 tests were conducted.
Cases in cities
Four hundred thirty-seven tests were conducted in Punjab’s capital Lahore out of which sixteen cases were confirmed with a ratio of 3.66%, while 520 tests were conducted in the federal capital Islamabad out of which 8 cases were reported confirmed with a ratio of 1.54%. One case was confirmed from 226 tests in Bahawalpur, Punjab, with a ratio of 0.44%.
Meanwhile, health minister Abdul Qadir Patel said that the government had strengthened the Border and Health Services role in Pakistan to efficiently deal with any sub-variant of Covid-19.
The minister said there was an effective surveillance system at all entry points of Pakistan, including airports. There will be rapid examinations and screening of passengers at all airports.
He added 90% of the population already got the Covid-19 vaccine.
The minister said that an efficient system with an experienced management team is fully functional in the country to remain vigilant and ready to make an emergency plan to tackle any sub-variant of the virus.
He said the Border and Health Services Pakistan (BHSP) ensured the full implementation of international health regulations.
