ISLAMABAD: Pakistan summoned the Indian Charge d’ Affaires on Tuesday and registered a strong protest over ceasefire violations by Indian troops along the Line of Control (LoC), resulting in the death of a civilian in the Nakyal sector.
The Indian Charge d’ Affaires was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to convey Pakistan’s strong protest over ceasefire violation along the Line of Control (LoC), a statement released by the Foreign Office quoted Foreign Office (FO) Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch as saying.
The firing in the Nakyal sector along the Line of Control (LoC) resulted killing of a 60-year-old civilian, said Mumtaz Zahra Baloch adding such actions blatantly breach the 2003 Ceasefire Understanding, reaffirmed in February 2021.
The spokesperson underscored that the utmost caution should be exercised by the Indian forces, as targeting innocent civilians contradicts the principles of human dignity, international human rights, and humanitarian laws.
Pakistan Demands Ceasefire Violations Investigation
Pakistan further urged India to investigate the incident and uphold the “Ceasefire Understanding.”
The day prior, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) reported that an elderly civilian identified as Ghayas from Kotli was martyred when Indian troops resumed unprovoked firing on the civilian population in the Nakyal sector along the Line of Control (LoC).
The ISPR statement said that three women who were working in the fields were terrified by the sudden firing.
Indian forces have been persistently violating the ceasefire agreement along the Line of Control, leading to the loss of lives of Pakistan Army personnel and civilians in their unprovoked border firing incidents.
