Pakistan Reduces Medicines’ Prices by 30%

ISLAMABAD: The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) after the approval of the central government has fixed the maximum retail prices of a number of specified drugs with listed packing sizes to provide some relief to poor customers.

According to a notification issued by DRAP, on Wednesday the order was issued in the exercise of powers conferred under clause (a) of section 7 of the DRAP Act, 2012 (XXI of 2012) read with section 12 of Drugs Act, 1976 (XXXI of 1976).

Reduction in medicines prices.

An official of the Ministry of National Health Services has said that the federal government has approved the price fixation of about 20 medicines in order to give relief to the masses.

He further said that the federal government has already approved the proposal to decrease the price of some medicines up to 30 percent.
He added that this step will provide relief to those patients suffering from various acute diseases and who regularly required related medicines for the treatment of blood pressure, cancer, eye diseases, and other severe medical complications.

He also recalled that unfortunately, the previous government had increased the prices of medicines up to 700 percent resulting heavy burden on the poor masses.
