ISLAMABAD:  Pakistan on Friday reiterated its strong support for the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IIOJK) for their right to self-determination.

In her weekly press briefing, Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch paid rich tribute to the great Kashmiri leader Syed Ali Shah Gilani’s lifetime commitment to justice and independence.

Appraising his struggle for Kashmir, Mumtaz Zahra Baloch said that Syed Ali Shah Gilani stood as the true voice and symbol of the Kashmiri people’s struggle for their rights and freedom.

Recalling Indian brutality with Syed Ali Shah Gilani, she said that today is the second death anniversary of a well-known leader who was put under house arrest for several years. And when he died, the Indian occupation forces took his dead body from his family and buried it in a graveyard where even his family members and relatives were not allowed to participate in his funeral or bury him on his own.

Pakistan Stands Firm in Support of Kashmir

She claimed that the late Gilani’s unwavering support for the Kashmiris’ right to self-determination in the face of ongoing persecution and excruciating personal suffering had served as an inspiration to generations of Kashmiris in their resistance to the Indian occupation and tyranny.

Gilani, she continued, would be remembered for his unmatched sacrifices and unwavering passion for Pakistan and Kashmir.

“Today, we commemorate his lifelong devotion to justice and freedom and reaffirm our steadfast commitment to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, who remain under India’s illegal occupation,” the spokesperson affirmed. She called on the Indian government to allow access to his family and supporters to visit his final resting place.
