ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has reaffirmed its commitment to global peace, justice, and the right to self-determination—highlighting long-standing issues such as Jammu and Kashmir and Palestine.

This came during the 19th Mid-Term Ministerial Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), held on 15–16 October 2025 in Kampala, Uganda, under the theme “Deepening Cooperation for Shared Global Affluence.”

The meeting was preceded by a Senior Officials Meeting from 13–14 October 2025. The Pakistani delegation was led by Special Secretary (UN) Nabeel Munir, according to a press release issued by the Foreign Office on Saturday.

“At the Plenary Session of the Ministerial Meeting, the Special Secretary delivered national statements, emphasizing NAM’s vital role in promoting peace and development amid global challenges—including the unresolved disputes of Jammu & Kashmir and Palestine, and the climate crisis,” it said.

Special Secretary Nabeel Munir reaffirmed Pakistan’s strong support for NAM’s principled position on the right to self-determination for peoples living under foreign occupation. He also condemned the growing wave of Islamophobia and the escalation of war rhetoric in South Asia, calling for collective efforts to promote peace and stability in the region.

On the sidelines of the NAM meeting, Munir held bilateral discussions with Uganda’s Foreign Minister, Odongo Jeje Abubakhar, as well as with other leaders from NAM member states, to strengthen cooperation on shared global priorities.

At the NAM Ministerial Committee on Palestine, the Special Secretary welcomed the Sharm El-Sheikh ceasefire agreement in Gaza and commended the mediation efforts of Qatar, Egypt, Turkiye, and the United States.

He expressed hope that the truce would pave the way for a complete Israeli withdrawal, the delivery of urgent humanitarian aid, and the start of reconstruction efforts. Munir also reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering support for the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state, based on pre-1967 borders with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.

The meeting concluded with the adoption of the Kampala Declaration and a comprehensive outcome document, which recognized Pakistan’s contributions to peace and stability in the Middle East.
