Pakistan Reaffirms Commitment to Enhance Ties with World Economic Forum

RIYADH: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with the World Economic Forum’s global business and innovation network.

He made the remarks during a meeting with the Forum’s President and CEO, Borge Brende, in Riyadh on the sidelines of the 9th Future Investment Initiative Conference, Radio Pakistan reported on Tuesday.

The meeting was held at the request of the WEF leadership to extend a formal invitation to the Prime Minister to attend the Forum’s Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland, scheduled for January next year.

The Prime Minister appreciated the continued and productive engagement between Pakistan and the World Economic Forum.

He mentioned Pakistan’s deep-rooted structural economic reforms directed to bring stability, fiscal discipline, investment, and digital transformation.

The Prime Minister expressed satisfaction at the improved macro-economic indicators over the past 18 months and said the focus will remain on export-led growth, public-private partnerships, and leveraging Pakistan’s large youth workforce and growing IT sector.

He welcomed the World Economic Forum’s partnership in promoting resilient food systems, highlighting their importance for Pakistan’s agrarian economy, and stressed that peace remains the key to achieving prosperity.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif noted that Pakistan serves as a vital bridge linking South Asia, Central Asia, and the Middle East.

The President of the World Economic Forum thanked the Prime Minister for Pakistan’s active engagement with the organisation and expressed hope for continued collaboration in advancing a mutually beneficial partnership.
