ISLAMABAD: To accommodate passengers more effectively, Pakistan Railways plans to expand its express train network to 96 by December 25, covering the entire country.

“Last year, the number of trains was 86, and through concentrated efforts, the department aims to improve and achieve a network of 96 trains across the entire railway system,” stated an official from the Ministry.

Passenger facilities at railway stations include waiting rooms, vending stalls, station restaurants, wheelchairs, information desks, computer reservation facilities, public address systems, provision of paramedics and first aid, online reservation services, passenger insurance, and the reinstatement of help desks at stations and facilities in trains.

The official highlighted that the overall punctuality ratio of trains has increased from 76 to 93 percent in three months due to close monitoring and strict measures implemented by Pakistan Railways at the divisional and Ministry levels.

“With improved punctuality and concrete measures taken in the last three months, the number of passengers has increased by over 20 million, demonstrating the department’s success,” added the official.

Additionally, Pakistan Railways is set to introduce the ‘Train Driver Assistant System’ (TDAS) to provide train drivers with a clear view of railway tracks up to a distance of 700 meters. The technology aims to enhance safety, punctuality, and efficiency during adverse weather conditions, particularly in dense smog and fog.

The TDAS system is poised to revolutionize train navigation through foggy landscapes, preventing potential accidents and ensuring smooth travel in conditions of compromised visibility. —APP
