DUBAI: Following the conclusion of the T20 World Cup, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has finalized the list of teams to participate in the T20 World Cup 2026, scheduled to take place in India and Sri Lanka. The upcoming edition of the mega tournament will feature 20 teams, divided into four groups of five teams each, with the hosts India and Sri Lanka already securing their places.
The qualification process for the T20 World Cup 2026 included the top teams from the T20I rankings and qualifiers. Teams like Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, South Africa, the West Indies, and the United States earned their spots through a combination of their rankings and performances in the Super Eight qualifiers at T20 World Cup 2024.
Joining these teams is Pakistan, who secured their place in the upcoming World Cup based on their T20I ranking of 7th.
The final eight teams for the T20 World Cup 2026 will be determined through regional qualifiers. Africa, Asia, and Europe will each have two qualification spots, while the Americas and East-Asia Pacific regions will have one spot each.
The recent T20 World Cup concluded with India claiming the trophy after defeating South Africa in a thrilling final by seven runs. This victory marked India’s second T20 World Cup title, with their first win dating back to 2007 when they defeated Pakistan in the final.
