ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Qatar have entered a new phase of economic, defence, and agricultural cooperation, supported by the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC).

In a recent development, Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari held a key meeting in Doha with Qatar’s Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister, Sheikh Saud, to advance bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors.

During the meeting, both sides agreed to strengthen collaboration in the defence sector, agriculture, and investment. The two sides stressed the need for joint military exercises, exchange of defence technology, and sharing of professional expertise.

Qatar’s Defence Minister showed keen interest in boosting defence cooperation and lauded the professionalism of Pakistan’s armed forces.

The strengthening of economic and defence ties between Pakistan and Qatar is expected to give new momentum to the defence industry and exports.

This partnership is expected to boost the adoption of modern technology, enhance agricultural development, and attract greater investment.

The SIFC continues to play a pivotal role in advancing Pakistan’s agricultural, economic, and defence sectors.

Pakistan shares cordial ties with Qatar rooted in economic cooperation, defence, shared values, faith, and culture. Qatar hosts a large Pakistani workforce.

In October, the two countries signed a protocol to formalise Doha’s $3 billion investment pledge through the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) or designated investment vehicles.
