Pakistan, Qatar Explore Trade and Investment Opportunities

DOHA: Pakistan and Qatar have discussed expanding bilateral ties, promoting trade, and enhancing investment opportunities.

Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani called on Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari in Doha on Tuesday.

The two leaders discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations, promote trade, and enhance investment opportunities between Pakistan and Qatar.

President Zardari praised the Qatari leadership for its efforts to safeguard national security in the face of Israeli aggression and commended Qatar’s constructive role in promoting peace and stability in the region.

He also lauded Qatar for the successful organisation of the FIFA World Cup 2022 and the exemplary arrangements made during the event.

The Qatari Prime Minister acknowledged the courage and resilience of the Pakistani people and Armed Forces during the recent Pakistan-India conflict, expressing deep appreciation for their steadfastness.

He also voiced hope that ongoing initiatives in Afghanistan would pave the way for lasting peace and stability.

President Zardari invited the Qatari leadership to expand its investments in Pakistan, particularly in the Pakistan Stock Exchange.

In response, the Qatari Prime Minister noted that Qatar is already investing in the exchange and intends to further increase the scale of its investments.

The meeting was attended by First Lady Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, Chairman Pakistan People’s Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Pakistan’s Ambassador to Qatar.

Pakistan shares cordial ties with Qatar rooted in economic cooperation, defence, shared values, faith and culture. Qatar hosts a large Pakistani workforce.
