ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday held talks with his Qatari counterpart Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani during an official visit to Doha, reaffirming the two countries’ commitment to deepen cooperation across a wide range of sectors.

Bilateral ties reviewed

According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, the meeting reviewed the overall trajectory of Pakistan–Qatar relations and exchanged views on key regional and international developments.

Both leaders expressed satisfaction over what they described as growing momentum in political, economic and institutional engagement between Pakistan and Qatar.

The talks focused on expanding cooperation in trade and investment, energy, defence, labour mobility and cultural exchanges.

To fast-track progress, both sides agreed to mandate a joint task force to accelerate collaboration in these areas.

The two sides also stressed the importance of implementing decisions taken during recent high-level engagements and through existing mechanisms such as the Joint Ministerial Commission and Bilateral Political Consultations.

Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Chief of the Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi were also present during the meeting.

Regional security discussed

Regional issues featured prominently in the discussions, including the situation in Gaza and broader Gulf security dynamics.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif appreciated Qatar’s diplomatic role in promoting dialogue and de-escalation in the region.

Both leaders underscored the need for peaceful resolution of disputes and adherence to international law, including the principles of the United Nations Charter.

The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of the shared commitment to further strengthen the Pakistan–Qatar strategic partnership and to remain closely engaged on bilateral, regional and international issues.
