Pakistan Pursues Environment-Friendly Policy as 51 New Projects Added to National Grid

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is also concentrating on environment-friendly green energy as 51 Renewable Energy (RE) projects including solar and wind having a total accumulative capacity of 2,634 MW have been added to supply green energy to the national grid of Pakistan.

According to the officials, the number of net metering solar panels has reached up to 35,029 with a total capacity of 591.65 MW in the country. The government of Pakistan was actively promoting and facilitating the deployment of Renewable Energy projects in Pakistan as these new projects are being pursued in Independent Power Producers (IPPs) mode via private sector investors under the government’s policies.

Environment-Friendly Projects

Officials said that solar energy technology at consumer ends is also being utilized at the national level. Several other measures are also being taken for the fast-track development of Renewable Energy projects in the country. Officials added that the net-metering-based installations were also being done as per NEPRA Regulations regarding alternative & renewable energy.

 Green Energy Generation Projects                 

The regulations provided a framework for implementing net metering installations utilizing green energy including solar and wind production of up to one MW capacity. Pakistan’s federal government agency known as the Alternative Energy Development Board has been carrying certification of service providers and installers of solar systems as per AEDB (Certification) Regulations for secure, safe, and quality-assured of green energy generation projects for small medium agricultural, industrial, residential installations and commercial.
