LAHORE: As the political crisis is deepening in Pakistan’s Punjab province, the Punjab Assembly on Friday passed a resolution against the governor’s “unconstitutional and illegal” move to de-notify Chaudhry Parvez Elahi as Chief Minister.

Punjab Assembly Speaker Sibtain Khan chaired the assembly session. The assembly session was marred by sloganeering by the opposition and treasury benches.

The assembly session also came as the Lahore High Court (LHC) took up Chief Minister Parvez Elahi’s petition against Punjab Governor Balighur Rehman’s orders to de-notify him as the chief minister of Punjab.

PTI lawmaker Mian Aslam Iqbal presented the resolution against the Punjab governor’s order and reposed trust in Parvez Elahi as the chief minister. However, the opposition staged a walkout as the resolution was being presented.

Earlier, speaking on the assembly floor amid the commotion, an unfazed Parvez Elahi thanked God for protecting his government and his chair as they navigated the obstacles in their path.
