ISLAMABAD: Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari has signed the bill prohibiting child marriage into law.
An official notification signed by President Zardari read: The Islamabad Capital Territory Child Marriage Restraint Bill, 2025 is assented to, as passed by the Parliament.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) woman lawmaker Nafisa Shah lauded the bill in a post on X.
“Crucial milestone”
She stated: “This is a very crucial milestone achieved that will have positive effect on women’s rights, maternal and child health generally.”

“Sindh was the first province to do so, it is time other provinces take this up as well,” Shah added.
The eldest daughter of President Zardari and late former prime minister Benazir Bhutto, Bakhtawar Bhutto-Zardari also expressed her appreciation for the new legislation in her post on X.
