Pakistan President Calls for Organ Donation Awareness in Pakistan

KARACHI: Pakistan’s President Dr. Arif Alvi on Saturday said that the preventive measures were need to control diseases in the country.

Speaking to the accreditation celebration ceremony in Karachi, the President commended the establishment of a blood bank at the Indus Hospital and Health Network, along with its accreditation from the Association for Advancement of Blood and Biotherapies (AABB) in blood banking.

Arif Alvi highlighted the milestone achievement’s potential to prevent diseases through safe blood transfusion.

The President acknowledged the various challenges faced by the people, including malnutrition, obesity, mental health issues, and breast cancer. He noted the shortage of safe blood for patients in the country, urging donors to contribute efforts to improve the situation.

Dr. Alvi called for a cultural shift in attitudes toward organ donation, emphasizing the country’s tremendous potential for progress. He advised doctors and health professionals to actively engage in politics for the betterment of the healthcare system.

Reflecting on the country’s response to the challenges of COVID-19 and polio, Dr. Alvi praised its ability to collect data and information effectively. He also highlighted the issue of out-of-school children, revealing plans to utilize mosques for educational purposes with the assistance of Ulemas.

Dr. Abdul Bari Khan, President of the Indus Hospital and Health Network, expressed pride in achieving AABB accreditation, making it the first hospital in the country to reach such a level. The President, during the event, received a detailed briefing on the Indus Hospital’s network and was informed that three million patients had received safe blood through their services.

Prior to the ceremony, President Dr. Arif Alvi visited various sections of the Blood Transfusion Services, commending the management and philanthropists for their efforts.
