ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari has called for collaborative efforts by the Eastern countries to ensure sustainable development and common prosperity through China’s Global Development Initiative (GDI).
The President highlighted that GDI had huge potential to significantly shape the future of the world by promoting shared development and asked the developing nations to play a leading role in the global development process.
He expressed these views while virtually addressing the 2nd High-level Meeting of the Forum on Global Action for Shared Development, which was organized by the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), in Beijing, President Secretariat Press Wing said in a statement.
Representatives of foreign nations, global organisations, foreign firms and non/ governmental organisations also attended the event.
In his statement, Pakistan’s President highlighted the significance of viewing international challenges from an Eastern perspective.
He said that most of the world population lived in the Eastern hemisphere, especially in nations like Pakistan, China, and other neighbouring countries.
He emphasized that Islamabad was eager to see China’s President Xi Jinping and China spearheading GDI, leading the East and the entire world into the new millennium.
The Global Development Initiative (GDI), Beijing aims to help accelerate the execution of the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda and address the dilemma of global development.
Beijing is collaborating with international partners to speed up the execution of GDI by enlarging its Friend Circle, mobilizing resources, and also building capacities for shared prosperity.
The statement further said that Pakistan and China have also inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Strengthening Development Cooperation and Promoting the Implementation of Global Development Initiative, focusing on areas including medicine, poverty reduction, infrastructure construction, education, planning consultation, agriculture, culture and sports, law-enforcement cooperation, and human resource development.
