MANSEHRA, Pakistan: Police in northern Pakistan rescued a German tourist who went missing during a hiking trip in Kaghan Valley, officials confirmed on Thursday.
Shafiullah Khan Gandapur, the district top police official, told reporters that 66-year-old Karun Anne Malarik was separated from her seven-member group while trekking on the Chapra track near the resort town of Naran. She lost contact with her companions after nightfall in the dense forest.
“We mobilised two teams immediately and after several hours of hectic efforts, our personnel rescued her and shifted her back to her hotel,” Gandapur told reporters.
Authorities said the group, comprising four women and three men, had travelled from Gilgit-Baltistan into Kaghan Valley via Babusar Top. Following the incident, the tourists were scheduled to continue their journey to Islamabad before returning to Germany.
The Kaghan Valley is scenic in the Mansehra District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, with the town of Naran being a central hub for visitors.. The month of October is less crowded than the peak summer months, making for a quieter experience.
Most roads are generally open in early October. The main road connecting Kaghan and Naran is the Mansehra-Naran-Jalkhad-Chilas Road (N-15).
