ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Poland have agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation in trade, energy, infrastructure, defence, counter-terrorism, science, and education, as both countries seek to expand their partnership across multiple sectors.

The commitment was expressed by Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Polish Minister for Foreign Affairs Radoslaw Sikorski during a joint press stakeout in Islamabad on Thursday.

Ishaq Dar stated that during the delegation-level talks, both sides reviewed the state of Pakistan–Poland relations, noting that ties between the two countries continue to strengthen.

He pointed out that bilateral trade has surpassed one billion dollars, with both sides recognising the significant untapped potential to further expand trade and economic cooperation.

Dar added that the discussions also covered key regional and global developments, including the security situation in South Asia, Afghanistan, Europe, and the Middle East.

The Deputy Prime Minister briefed the Polish delegation on Pakistan’s concerns over unprovoked Indian aggression and reaffirmed Pakistan’s principled position on the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, emphasising the need for its resolution in line with the aspirations of the Kashmiri people and relevant UN Security Council resolutions.

He further noted that the talks addressed recent actions by the Taliban regime and the presence of extremist groups such as Fitna al-Khawarij and Fitna al-Hindustan operating from Afghan territory. He stressed that ongoing attacks by these elements remain a serious concern for Pakistan.

Ishaq Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to transforming bilateral relations with Poland into a comprehensive and mutually beneficial partnership.

Speaking on the occasion, the Polish Deputy Prime Minister shared that his country has offered to intensify bilateral cooperation in areas such as trade, public finance and water management. He also mentioned that further collaboration in mining and the energy sector was discussed.

Noting the growing Pakistani diaspora in Poland, including students, the Polish Deputy PM remarked that Polish universities are increasingly popular among young and talented individuals from Pakistan.

Highlighting the importance of people-to-people exchanges, Radoslaw Sikorski stated that Poland remains open to legal migration and genuine academic engagement, while maintaining a strict zero-tolerance policy toward illegal migration.

On regional and global issues, the visiting dignitary reaffirmed Poland’s firm support for a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace in Ukraine, and reiterated his country’s commitment to promoting peace in Gaza.

During the visit, two memorandums of understanding were signed to establish regular bilateral consultations and enhance cooperation between the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad and the Polish Institute of International Affairs.

Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski arrived in Islamabad on Thursday for a two-day official visit at the invitation of Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar.

The mechanism of Bilateral Political Consultations (BPC) between the two foreign ministries plays an important role in reviewing progress on bilateral issues and exchanging views on regional and multilateral issues of mutual interest.
