QUETTA: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday revealed a major policy decision to deploy all officers from the 48th Common Group of police and civil services to Balochistan to bring peace, stability, and development in the province.
Addressing a high-level Apex Committee meeting of the National Action Plan at the CM Secretariat, Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed the government’s commitment to eradicating terrorism through collective national efforts. He condemned recent terrorist attacks in Balochistan and vowed that terrorists responsible for the bloodshed would be dealt with decisively.
The policy entails deploying half of the 48th Common Group officers immediately for one year, with the remaining officers rotated in after six months for another year. Additionally, officers from the 49th Common Group will follow the same schedule starting a year from now.
Sharif announced that these officers would receive four air tickets per quarter and potentially earn three extra performance points for their dedication and service. The deployment will proceed in coordination with the Balochistan government.
The Prime Minister said that dialogues with terrorists are only possible if they respect the constitution and the national flag. He stressed the need to distinguish between genuine dialogue partners and those intent on destabilizing the country.
Furthermore, Sharif disclosed plans to double the passport office staff at the Chaman border and appoint a new director of cyber operations for Balochistan. He noted significant development progress in the province, including a 100% increase in Balochistan’s share of the 2010 NFC award to accelerate development.
The Prime Minister also underscored the importance of Gwadar Port and the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) for national prosperity, despite opposition from anti-state elements.
The meeting was attended by Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Governor Balochistan Sheikh Jaffar Khan Mandokhail, Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Sarfraz Bugti, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, and other senior officials.
