ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has welcomed the historic International Court of Justice Advisory Opinion on Israel’s policies in Occupied Palestinian Territory.
In a statement via social media, the Prime Minister said, “The ICJ ruling that Israel must end its occupation and illegal settlements is vindication of the legitimate struggle of brave Palestinians,”.
The PM urged the international community and UN to executive the ruling, ensuring Palestinian self-determination through a two-state solution in line with UN resolutions.
“Proud that Islamabad contributed to the case, showing our unwavering resolve to the Palestinian cause,” he further said.
The ICJ decision comes amidst mounting global legal pressure on Israel over the war in Gaza. “The court has found that Israel’s continued presence in the Palestinian Territories is illegal,” ICJ presiding judge Nawaf Salam said Friday, adding: “Israel must end the occupation as rapidly as possible.”
“The Court has found that Israel’s… continued presence in the Occupied Palestinian Territory is illegal,” Salam said.
