KARACHI: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday lauded Pakistan’s armed forces for delivering a befitting response to India, which it “will remember until the Day of Judgment”.

While addressing naval officers and personnel at Pakistan Navy Dockyard in Karachi, PM Shehbaz highlighted the nation’s unwavering support for its military, standing like an “iron wall” behind them.

He paid rich tribute to the Pakistan Navy for its pivotal role in Operation Bunyanum Marsoos.

The Prime Minister underscored the precision strikes by the Pakistan Army on enemy targets and the use of advanced technology by the Pakistan Air Force to teach the enemy a lasting lesson.

He particularly praised the Navy’s critical role in safeguarding sea lines of communication and ensuring the uninterrupted flow of maritime trade, while maintaining absolute maritime sovereignty through a layered and assured seaward defence.

He noted that the Pakistan Navy was equally prepared to respond to the enemy, ready to repeat the historic victory of Dwarka.

“The enemy lacked the courage to confront our Navy’s readiness,” he said, adding that the armed forces of the country had humiliated the enemy, preventing further escalation.

The Prime Minister hailed the operation as a proud and defining moment in Pakistan’s history, highlighting it as a testament to the nation’s strength and resilience.

He honoured Lieutenant Yasir, who was martyred at PNS Mehran, praising his selfless sacrifice in defending Pakistan’s honour and naval assets. “Our martyrs are the pride of our nation,” Sharif stated.

He also referred to India’s recent failed military attempt, noting that the Indian Navy’s flagship aircraft carrier, Vikrant, did not dare come within 400 nautical miles of Pakistani waters.

He attributed this to Pakistan’s robust defence strategy and the unwavering resolve of its armed forces.

The Prime Minister credited the success of the operation to the unified and strategic coordination of Pakistan’s military, particularly under the leadership of Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir, which, he said, revitalised the nation’s spirit and determination.

During the operation, Pakistan’s ports, including Karachi and Bin Qasim, remained fully functional, with commercial shipping continuing without disruption.

In contrast, trade activity along India’s western coast dropped significantly, and its navy, despite being five times larger, appeared immobilised.

Prime Minister Sharif commented, “Our sharks chased away the Indian whale,” referring to the retreat of India’s Rafale jets and the aircraft carrier Vikrant.

Upon arrival at the Navy Dockyard, the Prime Minister was received by Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf. Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir and Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmad Baber Sidhu were also present.

During the visit, the Prime Minister boarded the Type-054A Class Destroyer PNS TAIMUR, where he was briefed by Commander Pakistan Fleet on the Pakistan Navy’s strategic orientation, operational undertakings, and noteworthy contributions during the ongoing operation.

Tension between India and Pakistan escalated after the April 22 attack in the Pahalgam area of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). India swiftly blamed Pakistan without presenting any credible evidence.

Pakistan condemned the attack and strongly denied the Indian allegations as baseless. Pakistan also offered a neutral and transparent international investigation into the incident. However, New Delhi did not respond to Pakistan’s offer and continued with its aggressive posture.

On the night of May 6-7, India launched a series of air strikes on Pakistan, resulting in civilian casualties. Pakistan responded firmly and downed five Indian fighter jets and destroyed a brigade headquarters and several military posts. Both sides then exchanged missiles, which stretched over the week.

On May 10, when tensions between the two countries peaked, US President Donald Trump announced that a ceasefire had been reached between India and Pakistan.

According to the government, 40 civilians — including 7 women and 15 children — lost their lives in the Indian aggression, and 121 others sustained injuries.
