NEW YORK: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met Kuwait’s Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah in New York on Tuesday on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, where the two leaders discussed bilateral ties as well as regional and global issues.
During the meeting, PM Sharif recalled the longstanding, historic fraternal ties between Pakistan and Kuwait. He conveyed his respects and good wishes for the Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
Recalling that both countries have always stood by each other through thick and thin, Prime Minister Sharif thanked the Crown Prince for Kuwait’s expressions of solidarity following the recent floods in Pakistan, according to Radio Pakistan.
Expressing satisfaction over the positive trajectory of bilateral cooperation between the two countries, the Prime Minister expressed Pakistan’s keen desire to strengthen these ties further, particularly in trade, investment, agriculture, livestock, manpower export and health.
The Prime Minister said Pakistan is looking forward to hosting the Kuwaiti Crown Prince for an official visit to Pakistan later this year.
The two leaders also exchanged views on regional and international issues, including the situation in the Middle East.
The Crown Prince appreciated Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts to effectively project the plight of the Palestinian people before the international community as well as playing an important role for peace in the region.
Both leaders affirmed their resolve to collaborate closely, both bilaterally as well as on multilateral forums.
PM Sharif is in New York to participate in the 80th Session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA).
In his address to the UN General Assembly, PM Sharif will highlight Pakistan’s position on the Jammu and Kashmir dispute and the Palestinian question, as well as present Pakistan’s perspective on key global issues.
PM Sharif will, draw the attention of the international community towards the grave crisis in Gaza, and call for decisive action to end the suffering of the Palestinians.
He will also highlight Pakistan’s perspective on the regional security situation, as well as other issues of international concern, including climate change, terrorism, Islamophobia, and sustainable development.
He will also participate in a meeting of select Islamic leaders with US President Donald Trump to exchange views on issues relating to regional and international peace and security.
Shehbaz Sharif will attend several high-level events on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly Session, including important meetings of the UN Security Council, High-Level Meeting of the Global Development Initiative and a Special High-Level Event on Climate Action.
