Pakistan PM Felicitates Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on Winning the Maldives Presidential Elections

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Interim Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar has congratulated Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on winning the presidential elections of Maldives.

In a statement on social media platform X, formerly Twitter the PM said that he is looking forward to working closely with Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to further enhance ties between Pakistan and Maldives and regional cooperation.

Muizzu won the presidential election in the Maldives after a second-round run-off against current president Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

Incumbent Ibrahim Mohamed Solih accepted defeat shortly before midnight after the Elections Commission of the Maldives said Muizzu had won the election securing 54.06 votes in the run-off contest.

Solih, 61, wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, “Congratulations to president-elect Muizzu. Thank you for the beautiful democratic example shown by the people in the elections.” Solih will continue as caretaker president until his successor’s inauguration on November 17.

According to Maldives media, Muizzu, former housing minister, played a vital role in an earlier government’s development programmes.
