ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday discussed on the evolving conflict in the Middle East and beyond in a phone call with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Prime Minister Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s firm condemnation of the ongoing escalation in the region, particularly the recent missile attacks on Türkiye, emphasising that the people of Pakistan stand in full solidarity with their Turkish brothers and sisters during these challenging times, according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office.

PM Shehbaz also posted on X about his phone call with Erdogan, saying, “During our most cordial exchange, we discussed the rapidly evolving situation in the Middle East. I strongly condemned the attacks on our brotherly country Turkiye, as well as other brotherly countries in the region.”

Meanwhile the Prime Minister praised Türkiye constructive role in promoting peace between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

The remarks came a day after Pakistan announced a “temporary pause” in its ongoing Operation Ghazab lil-Haq against the Afghan Taliban, coinciding with Eidul Fitr and following requests from several brotherly Islamic countries, including Türkiye.

Both leaders called on the international community, especially regional stakeholders, to resolve conflicts through dialogue and diplomacy, underscoring the importance of peaceful solutions.

The Prime Minister highlighted that both countries are working diligently to strengthen bilateral relations across all areas of mutual interest.

PM Sharif and President Erdogan agreed to maintain close engagement to promote peace, prosperity, and economic growth, both bilaterally and across the region.

Shehbaz Sharif during the call also extended Eid greetings to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, his family, and the people of Türkiye, which were warmly reciprocated by the Turkish leader.
