ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed his keenness to enhance the Pakistan-UK relationship to a higher level during a meeting with British High Commissioner Jane Marriott on Wednesday.

British High Commissioner to Pakistan Jane Marriott called on the Shehbaz Sharif at Prime Minister House. During the meeting, the premier emphasized the urgency of finalizing the Enhanced Strategic Partnership (ESP) agreement and highlighted the government’s focus on addressing economic challenges.

The Pakistan Prime Minister stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation in trade, investment, climate issues, and fostering people-to-people contacts. He also emphasized the significance of finding common ground on regional and global matters of mutual concern.

Shehbaz Sharif thanked British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Foreign Secretary Lord David Cameron for their congratulatory messages on his re-election. He expressed his readiness to collaborate closely with UK leadership to bolster bilateral ties, noting the longstanding and positive relations between Pakistan and the UK.

Prime Minister Shehbaz urged for the swift resumption of PIA flights between the two countries to enhance connectivity and address the concerns of the Pakistani diaspora in the UK, numbering 1.6 million.

Moreover, he conveyed his best wishes for the swift recovery of King Charles III and expressed hopes for his visit to Pakistan once his health permits.
