Pakistan PM Arrives in Tajikistan for Two-Day Official Visit

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will also attend the International Conference on Glaciers’ Preservation.

DUSHANBE: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday arrived in Tajikistan’s capital for a two-day official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral ties.

During the visit, PM Sharif will also attend the International Conference on Glaciers’ Preservation and addressing global environmental issues.

At the Dushanbe Airport, the Prime Minister was warmly received by Tajik Prime Minister Kokhir Rasulzoda, Deputy Foreign Minister Sharifzoda Farrukh Homiddin, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Tajikistan Muhammad Saeed Sarwar, and Tajikistan’s Ambassador to Pakistan Yusuf Sharifzoda.

Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar and Special Assistant Syed Tariq Fatemi are accompanying the prime minister.

 

During his stay, Prime Minister Sharif is expected to hold a bilateral meeting with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon.

The two leaders will explore avenues for cooperation across multiple sectors and exchange views on regional developments, including Pakistan’s gratitude for Tajikistan’s consistent support amid ongoing tensions with India.

A key highlight of the visit will be the Prime Minister’s participation in a high-level international conference focused on glacier preservation.

In the Conference, the Prime Minister will apprise the participants about the impacts of climate change on Pakistan and Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to climate change mitigation and preserving the glaciers.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Sharif wrapped up his visit to Azerbaijan, where he announced that the Azeri leadership had reaffirmed plans to invest $2 billion in Pakistan and strengthen cooperation in key areas including trade, defence, education, and healthcare.

On Wednesday, Sharif took part in a trilateral summit in Azerbaijan’s Lachin district alongside President Ilham Aliyev and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The three leaders committed to enhancing collaboration and transforming their longstanding fraternal relations into a strategic partnership aimed at promoting regional prosperity.
