ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday announced plans to expand the scope of digital wallets across the country to further enhance transparency and efficiency in government disbursements.

The Prime Minister was addressing a ceremony held in Islamabad on Monday to honour the individuals, who demonstrated outstanding performance in the success of the Ramadan Relief Package and the digital delivery of funds to the deserving people.

PM Shehbaz said that the scheme ensured payments were made transparently while preserving the dignity of the beneficiaries.

He highlighted that modern payment methods enabled efficient money transfers, with digital wallets making the process simple and transparent.

Shehbaz Sharif noted that the previous payment system had several shortcomings, which were addressed by adopting the new digital framework. He added that 79% of the payments under the programme were made through digital channels.

The Prime Minister said the government will expand the scope of digital wallets across the country. He added provinces will also be included in the process of digital payments through an integrated system.

Shehbaz Sharif went on to say the disbursement of payments became possible due to collective team efforts. He said the government will ensure one hundred percent utilisation of funds digitally next year.

During the ceremony, Secretary Benazir Income Support Programme Amir Ahmed Ali gave a detailed briefing on the PM Ramadan Relief Package and digital wallets.

On the occasion, the Prime Minister presented honorary shields to officers from both public and private organisations in recognition of their significant contributions to the implementation of the PM Ramadan Relief Package.
