ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced a multi-million-rupee compensation package for the rain-affected communities in Balochistan.
Speaking to the media during his visit to rain-hit Gwadar, the Prime Minister assured the affected people that the federal government remains committed to ensuring their complete rehabilitation.
Under the compensation package, two million rupees will be provided to the families of the deceased and half a million rupees to the injured. Moreover, seven hundred and fifty thousand rupees will be allocated for fully destroyed houses, and three hundred and fifty thousand rupees for partially damaged houses.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that the distribution of compensation will be completed within four days under the supervision of Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfaraz Ahmed Bugti. Furthermore, he announced the daily distribution of seven thousand food packs to the rain-affected individuals until they were able to return home.
During the visit, Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti also pledged the immediate release of 400 million rupees as compensation for the eighty-three damaged boats of Gwadar fishermen.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had previously instructed authorities to spare no effort in rescuing and providing relief to those affected by torrential rains and flash floods in Gwadar. He reiterated the government’s commitment to utilizing all available resources for the assistance of Gwadar residents and other affected areas in Balochistan.
The Prime Minister personally distributed relief goods among the affected population, with Chief Minister Balochistan Sarfaraz Bugti also in attendance. Detailed briefings on the situation were provided during the visit.
