ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s National Assembly on Monday unanimously adopted a resolution praising the armed forces for their exemplary professionalism, vigilance, and bravery in defending the country’s sovereignty in response to unprovoked Indian aggression.
Moved by Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, the resolution also commended the military for its exceptional restraint and sense of responsibility, as well as for delivering a measured and appropriate response to the provocation.
The House paid heartfelt tribute to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives in defence of the motherland, honouring their ultimate sacrifice as a source of national pride, resilience, and unity.
In a collective expression of gratitude, the Assembly bowed in humility before Allah Almighty for bestowing the nation with the dignity and honour of safeguarding Pakistan’s territorial integrity against blatant aggression.
The House congratulated the entire nation of Pakistan, which rose above all differences and stood united behind its leadership across the political spectrum with one voice.
The resolution expressed sincere gratitude to the friendly nations for their support to Pakistan at this critical juncture.
The National Assembly reiterated its resolve to regional and global peace with dignity and honour, while underscoring that democracies are committed to dialogue, not conflict. It stressed that the secure neighbourhood and long-term stability in South Asia can only be achieved through sincere and structured negotiations.
It called upon the authorities to actively engage the global community in efforts to resolve the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in accordance with the aspirations of the Kashmiri people and the relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
The House emphasised the vital importance of ensuring the full implementation of the Indus Waters Treaty and reaffirmed that protecting Pakistan’s water rights is a key pillar of national security.
The resolution also expressed the House’s firm commitment to upholding its constitutional role in defending the national interest, while promoting peace, unity, and security for the people of Pakistan and the broader region.
Pakistan, India ceasefire
Nuclear-armed neighbours Pakistan and India agreed on a ceasefire on Saturday following the US pressure and four days of intense fighting.
In late April, an attack in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians.
India accused Pakistan and launched missile and drone strikes. Pakistan responded with Operation Bunyan-un-Marsoos, targeting Indian military installations.
Amidst mounting international concern, the United States brokered a ceasefire. Pakistan has consistently advocated for peace and regional stability.
