LONDON: Pakistan-origin British Boxer Adam Azim has become the new European light-welterweight champion after his terrific performance to outclass Franck Petitjean of France in round ten of their fight in Wolverhampton, England.
The 21-year-old rising star, having family roots in Kotli, Azad Jammu, and Kashmir (AJK), produced some decisive movies with his eye-catching performance while dropping the defending champion in the fifth with a body shot.
According to BBC, the French Boxer Petitjean, 35, beat the count, but his corner threw in the towel in the tenth after he went for a second time. After the recent victory, Azim improved his record to 10 wins and seven stoppages.

Expressing his excitement, the young boxer was optimistic about some more wins to add to his cap and hope to emulate his idol Amir Khan by becoming a world champion by the age of 22. Azim will turn 22 in July 2024.
The rising star also thanked his team and staff members, particularly Shane McGuigan, for getting him to that stage.
“He [Petitjean] was really tough; I knew I couldn’t stop him in the early rounds; this was a development fight for me. I had to chop the tree down, and I did that”, Azim said, adding that he could have gone another 15 rounds then.
It is worth noting that the former British boxer Amir Khan who also had family roots in Pakistan, remained as light-welterweight champion from 2009 to 2012, followed by scored of other victories worldwide.
