ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Oman on Wednesday reaffirmed their commitment to further enhance maritime cooperation during talks between the Commander of the Royal Navy of Oman and Pakistan’s Naval Chief in Islamabad.

Commander Royal Navy of Oman, Rear Admiral Saif Bin Nasser Bin Mohsin Al Rahbi, called on Naval Chief Admiral Naveed Ashraf at Naval Headquarters, according to a statement issued by the military’s media wing.

During the meeting, matters of mutual interest, regional maritime security, and bilateral naval cooperation were discussed, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.

It said the Omani naval commander praised the professionalism of the Pakistan Navy and acknowledged its continued contributions towards ensuring maritime security and stability in the region.

Later, the Chief of the Naval Staff and the Commander Royal Navy of Oman signed a Memorandum of Understanding related to the sharing of white shipping information.

“The MoU is aimed at establishing guidelines and procedures for information sharing in order to enhance mutual awareness of white shipping,” ISPR said.

It added that Pakistan and Oman enjoy geographical proximity, sharing common maritime boundaries.

The statement further said the bilateral relations between the countries cover a wide-ranging scope, including economic cooperation, people-to-people contacts, and strong defence ties.

Both navies maintain deep professional relations, demonstrated through joint training programmes, bilateral exercises, and participation in multilateral maritime drills.

Earlier this month, a Royal Navy of Oman flotilla visited Karachi to take part in the annual bilateral Thamar Al Tayyib (TAT) 2025 exercise.
