Pakistan Okays Funds for Hospitals in Afghanistan

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet on Tuesday a summary submitted by the Ministry of National Health Services, Coordination and Regulation regarding the transfer of funds to the Afghanistan government for three Pakistani hospitals in Afghanistan.

Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar presided over the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) meeting.

Federal Minister for Power Khurram Dastgir, former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Federal Commerce Minister Naveed Qamar, State Minister for Petroleum Musadik Malik, and Federal Minister Tariq Bashir Cheema attended the ECC meeting.

According to the revised mechanism, the total amount of Rs. 1.009 billion already approved by the Cabinet for salaries would be transferred to Afghanistan government in four tranches.

The first tranche is to be transferred to the Health Ministry account, and these funds would be transferred through the Foreign Ministry and sent to the Embassy of Pakistan in Kabul.

The remaining tranches would be transferred through banking channels to the Pakistani embassy account opened to disburse doctors and other staff’s salaries working in hospitals in Afghanistan constructed and operated by Pakistan.

The Ministry of Industries & Production presented a summary on diverting RLNG to urea fertilizer plants up to January 31, 2023. After deliberation, the ECC rejected the proposal and decided that the RLNG supply to these fertilizer plants would be halted with effect from midnight of January 3, 2023.

ECC approved the release of Rs. 10 billion in subsidies to the Petroleum Division and allowed federal government guarantees against bank financing of up to Rs. 50 billion for the PSO’s liquidity requirement for importing LNG and petroleum products.

Petroleum Division tabled a summary of the liquidity requirement of PSO.
