Pakistan Offers Condolences Over Landslide Tragedy in Papua New Guinea

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has expressed heartfelt condolences to the people and government of Papua New Guinea over the widespread death and destruction caused by a massive landslide in the Enga province of the country.

Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch in a statement late Tuesday said Pakistan is deeply saddened by tragic incident in Papua New Guinea.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences and sympathies over the tragic loss of life. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families,” said the statement.

She prayed for the speedy recovery of those who are missing adding that Pakistan stands with the people and government of Papua New Guinea in this hour of national tragedy.

Thousands of residents in Papua New Guinea have been ordered to evacuate due to an active landslide that buried over 2,000 people, according to government estimates. The disaster occurred after parts of a mountain collapsed in the northern Enga region on Friday.
