ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar held a phone conversation with Malaysia’s Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan and offered all possible support to the flood-hit nation.

According to a statement issued by the Foreign Office, Ishaq Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s solidarity with the people of Malaysia during this difficult time.

He conveyed Pakistan’s deepest condolences on the tragic loss of lives and displacement caused by floods in Malaysia.

-Torrential rains and widespread flooding across five South and Southeast Asian countries have driven the regional death toll to more than 1,400, with nearly 1,000 people still missing, according to figures released by local authorities.

Unprecedented floods, landslides, storms, and cyclones have devastated Indonesia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, and Thailand, as rescue teams and aid workers race to save stranded residents.

Submerged villages, large-scale evacuations, and damaged infrastructure continue to hinder relief efforts across the affected regions.

In Malaysia, the situation is improving as the waters recede after killing three and affecting thousands during the floods in the seven states near the border with Thailand.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has announced an allocation of approximately RM500 million $120 million USD, to repair public infrastructure damaged by the recent floods across several states.

He said he has directed all relevant state and federal departments to carry out damage assessments and begin repair work without delay.

Anwar, who is also the finance minister, said the National Disaster Management Agency had increased its preparedness and implemented appropriate actions together with local authorities and state governments in dealing with the disaster.
