ISLAMABAD: Kashmir Solidarity Day is being observed across the country today (Sunday) to express solidarity with the just struggle of Kashmiri people for their inalienable right to self-determination as per the United Nations resolutions.
The day will be marked to expose the worst oppression being perpetrated by the Indian occupation forces against Kashmiris in the Indian Illegally-Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. One-minute silence will be observed at 10am across the country.
In his message on the occasion, Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari demanded India end its “gross human right violations” in the occupied Kashmir, reverse its unilateral and illegal actions dated August 5, 2019, including repeal the draconian laws being used to suppress the Kashmiri people, demographic changes, and implement the relevant United Nations Security Council Resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir.
Solidarity walks
Walks to express solidarity with the Kashmiri brethren will be organised in cities of the country including Islamabad, Muzaffarabad, Gilgit and all the four provincial headquarters.
In Islamabad, the walk that started from the Foreign Office, was led by Foreign Secretary Asad Majeed and participated by cabinet members. It was also participated by a large number of students who were holding Pakistani flags besides people from different walks of life.
Human chains
Human chains will be formed at Kohala and other important points linking Pakistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Billboards and Posters will be displayed along important roads, at airports and railway stations to highlight the plight of Kashmiri people.
Restricted Kashmir Day rallies in Peshawar
Given the prevailing security threats, the Peshawar Division commissioner has asked the authorities concerned to hold rallies in connection with Kashmir Day, inside buildings. A letter was issued to the military secretary to the governor and the principal secretary to the chief minister in this regard. In the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa capital, Peshawar, the deputy commissioner has already imposed section 144 over security concerns.
Marriyum Aurangzeb, Federal Information has said the nation will mark Kashmir Day with zeal and fervour to express solidarity with the people of the occupied valley.
