ISLAMABAD: The death anniversary of renowned poet, lyricist, and columnist Jamiluddin Ahmed Aali was observed here on Wednesday to pay him tribute for his contribution to Urdu literature.
Jamiluddin Aali was born into a literary family in Delhi in 1925 where his father Sir Ameer-ud-Din Ahmed Khan was also a poet and his mother Syeda Jamila Begum belonged to the family of eminent Urdu Sufi poet Khawaja Mir Dard.
Jamiluddin Aali was a banker by profession and owing to his literary pursuits also remained associated with Anjuman Tarraqi e Urdu Pakistan for about 50 years from 1962 to 2012.
Establishment of Urdu University
His contribution towards the promotion of Urdu and the establishment of Urdu University in the country, to fulfill the dream and mission of Baba e Urdu (Maulana Abdul Haq), is also duly acknowledged by the people.
One of the longest poems in the Urdu literature, “Insaan,” including 4,000 verses also goes to Aali’s credit. His other contribution to Urdu Poetry comprises several poems and ghazals.
He has conferred the Pride of Performance award in 1991 and the Hilal-e-Imtiaz award in 2004.
Aali died of a heart attack on November 23, 2015 in Karachi and was buried in an army graveyard at Bizerta Lines Karachi. – APP
