ISLAMABAD: The Implementation Tribunal of Newspapers Employees (ITNE) on Thursday took a suo moto notice on the implementation of the 8th wage board award for journalists and issued notices to owners of all newspapers.
The Implementation Tribunal of Newspapers Employees has directed all newspaper owners to submit details about the implementation process of the 8th wage board in their respective organizations. The suo moto case will be heard from 21 to 23 December in Islamabad.
The media community appreciated the initiative and termed it a necessary step in the right direction to provide journalists and media workers their due rights. Punjab Union of Journalists (PUJ) president Ibrahim Lakki and General Secretary Khawar Baig said in a joint statement said that it is a landmark decision that would help to redress the financial problems of the journalists working in print media.

“PUJ and the whole journalist community are thankful to the Chairman ITNE Shahid Mahmood Khokhar for this timely decision. It is hoped that the journalists and media workers in print media will be able to get their due rights now after the implementation of the 8th wage board award”, they said.
Both officials also congratulated Federal Union of Journalists (FUJ) president Afzal Butt, Secretary General Arshad Ansari, PUJ members, and the whole journalist community and said that it was their untiring struggle that made it possible to provide media workers with their rights.
