ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial has said that Pakistan must devise a comprehensive policy and strategy to control the country’s rapidly increasing population.
The Chief Justice expressed that the state is responsible for providing basic facilities to the people to lead them toward prosperity and assist them in providing skill-based and technical education for attaining self-sufficiency.
Ata Bandial said that while addressing a conference on population and resources here on Friday, adding that the purpose of fundamental rights in the constitution was to keep the people happy, motivated, and satisfied, as this would also help the state achieve progress and prosperity.
“It is the prime responsibility of the state to take care of the health and basic needs of the mother and child as a comprehensive strategy needed to control the rampant increase in population,” he said.
Strategy to Contain Population
Bandial recalled that we must examine how Iran and Bangladesh managed to control their ever-increasing population, adding that the two states could be considered as case studies.
The chief justice further said that the state must impart vocational education to children and youth to achieve better results by making the new generation get skilful and technical education, which has the utmost importance in the current situation.
The Chief Justice said education was essential to control the population as this problem could not be solved from a legal point of view, adding that along with the state, people of the country should also play their role and should support the state by finding solutions to the problems.
