ISLAMABAD: Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf has revealed that the Pakistan Navy was prepared to sink an Indian aircraft carrier during last year’s Marka-e-Haq, underscoring the force’s operational readiness and strategic deterrence.
Speaking at the induction ceremony of the second MILGEM-class corvette, PNS Khaibar, into the Pakistan Navy fleet, the naval chief said the situation at the time had demonstrated the navy’s capability to respond decisively to any threat in the maritime domain.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Admiral Ashraf stated that the Pakistan Navy had positioned itself to strike the Indian Navy’s aircraft carrier, which compelled the adversary to remain within what he described as its perceived safe zones.
He added that the conduct of naval operations during Marka-e-Haq sent a clear and unequivocal message that any attempt to challenge Pakistan’s maritime interests would be met with an appropriate response.
The naval chief emphasised that Pakistan’s strategic location along key global trade and energy routes requires a strong and technologically advanced navy to ensure the security of Sea Lines of Communication (SLOCs).
He highlighted ongoing modernisation efforts, noting that the induction of platforms such as PNS Khaibar and the planned addition of HANGOR-class submarines would enhance the navy’s operational flexibility, combat strength and strategic reach.
Admiral Ashraf reaffirmed the Pakistan Navy’s commitment to safeguarding the country’s maritime frontiers, stressing that it remains fully prepared to defend national interests in an evolving regional security environment.
