RAWALPINDI: Two warships PNS Babar and PNS Hunain will be formally inducted into the fleet of Pakistan Navy on the occasion of Defense Day, the military’s media wing said on Tuesday. According to the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), the two warships will be formally inducted into the fleet of Pakistan Navy on the occasion of Defense Day. The ISPR added that PNS Babar and PNS Hunain will be formally inducted into the fleet of Pakistan Navy.
It added that PNS Babar has been built in Turkiye. According to the ISPR PNS Hunain has been built in Romania. These will further increase Pakistan Navy’s defense capabilities, the ISPR said. Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari is expected to be chief guest on the occasion.
PNS Babur, the first of its class, was laid down on June 4, 2020, launched on August 15, 2021, and commissioned on September 23, 2023, the ISPR said. The Babur-class frigates, equipped with vertical launch systems, are being inducted in Pakistan Navy. Two ships are being constructed in Istanbul, and two in Karachi. Three other ships of the class, PNS Badar, Tariq, and Khyber, are currently under construction at various stages, the ISPR said. It added that the Babur-class ships are capable of fighting simultaneously on the surface, underwater, and in the air. The 2888-ton Babur-class ships are equipped with advanced weapon systems for engaging targets.
The third ship of the Yarmouk class, was built at the Galati Shipyard in Romania. PNS Hunain is capable of launching surface-to-air missiles and is equipped with a 76mm main gun, along with two 20mm secondary guns. All four ships of the Yarmouk class are named after significant battles in Islamic history. PNS Hunain will significantly enhance the Pakistan Navy’s strength and capabilities.

The fourth and final ship of the Yarmuk class, PNS Yamamah, is currently undergoing final stages of completion. The Babur-class frigates is the reflection of Pak-Turkey defense cooperation and evidence of defense cooperation between the two nations, the ISPR added.
