ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Navy successfully test-fired a long-range surface-to-air missile, the LY-80(N), from a ship-based vertical launching system in the North Arabian Sea on Saturday.

The missile struck an aerial target, marking a major demonstration of the Navy’s modern air defence capabilities.

The exercise, attended by senior naval officials, aimed to validate the operational readiness of Pakistan’s maritime forces and their ability to defend national airspace against aerial threats.

The live-fire drill, confirmed by the military’s media wing on Saturday, marked a key moment in the exercise, with the missile accurately intercepting an aerial target.

The demonstration highlighted the Navy’s ability to defend naval assets against airborne threats while operating in complex, modern combat environments.

ISPR said the Pakistan Navy also demonstrated its precision strike and autonomous warfare capabilities, successfully engaging surface targets with loitering munitions and conducting open-sea trials of an unmanned surface vessel (USV), showcasing high-speed performance, maneuverability, and operational resilience.

Admiral Naveed Ashraf, Chief of the Naval Staff, praised the officers and personnel for their professionalism and reaffirmed the Navy’s commitment to safeguarding Pakistan’s maritime interests under all circumstances.
