ISLAMABAD: In response to the evolving regional maritime security environment and potential threats to critical sea lanes, the Pakistan Navy has launched Operation Muhafiz-ul-Bahr.
The operation aims to counter multidimensional threats to national shipping and safeguard Pakistan’s maritime trade, said a Press Release issued by Directorate General Public Relations (Pakistan Navy) on Monday.
“The initiative has been undertaken to ensure the uninterrupted flow of national energy supplies and the security of Sea Lines of Communication (SLOCs),” it said.
The Pakistan Navy is conducting escort operations in close coordination with the Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC) to safeguard merchant vessels navigating national waters.

The Navy is fully aware of the current maritime environment and is actively monitoring and managing vessel movements to ensure safe and secure transit, the press release said.
With nearly 90% of Pakistan’s trade carried out via sea, Operation Muhafiz-ul-Bahr aims to maintain uninterrupted access to vital sea lanes. Currently, Pakistan Navy ships are escorting two merchant vessels, one of which is scheduled to arrive in Karachi today.
The Navy remains fully prepared to respond to emerging maritime security challenges and reaffirmed its commitment to protecting national shipping and contributing to regional maritime safety.
