Pakistan Navy Chief’s US Visit to Boost Maritime Security and Defense Cooperation

RAWALPINDI: Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf has concluded a series of high-level meetings during his official visit to the United States aimed at strengthening maritime security and defense cooperation between the two countries.

According to Pakistan military media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the Naval Chief called on US Deputy Chief of Naval Operations, Vice Admiral Yvette Davids, and Acting Vice Commandant of the US Coast Guard, Vice Admiral Thomas G. Allan Jr.

The discussions focused on regional security, professional training, and enhanced maritime collaboration between the Pakistan Navy and its American counterparts.

Engagements with US Institutions and Think Tanks

The Naval Chief also visited the U.S. National Defense University, where he met with its President, Vice Admiral Peter A. Garvin. The two discussed mutual professional interests and future avenues for institutional cooperation.

Admiral Ashraf later called on senior officials at the U.S. Department of State, including Deputy Assistant Secretary for Political and Military Affairs Stanley L. Brown, to discuss regional maritime challenges and avenues for defense partnership.

In addition, the Admiral addressed U.S. scholars and experts at prominent think tanks, highlighting Pakistan’s role in ensuring maritime stability, combating piracy, and promoting collective maritime efforts in the Indian Ocean region.

Strengthening Maritime Cooperation

Admiral Naveed Ashraf emphasized that Pakistan Navy remains committed to contributing to international maritime security through collaborative initiatives and capacity-building programs.

His visit, according to defense analysts, marks a step forward in strengthening bilateral naval ties and fostering greater understanding between the armed forces of Pakistan and the United States.
