BRUSSELS: Pakistan and NATO have agreed to continue working closely together to address common challenges and further enhance their cooperation for the promotion of peace and security in the region and beyond.
The affirmation came during a meeting between Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Mohammad Ishaq Dar, and the Secretary General of NATO, Mark Rutte, at the NATO Headquarters in Brussels on Thursday.
The two sides reviewed the status of bilateral cooperation and discussed common interest issues such as peace and security, terrorism, climate change, and regional and global developments, Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement on the social media platform X.
Secretary General Rutte appreciated Pakistan’s contributions to regional peace and stability, and recognized Pakistan’s counter terrorism efforts.

Ishaq Dar underscored Pakistan’s desire and efforts for a peaceful and stable South Asia, underlining the importance of constructive dialogue and cooperation.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to combating terrorism, the Deputy Prime Minister said that the threat of terrorism that Pakistan continues to encounter is primarily supported and perpetrated from beyond its borders.

He stated that the Government of Pakistan is actively implementing measures to counter these threats.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening mutually beneficial engagement between Pakistan and NATO, agreeing to maintain close cooperation to address shared challenges and further strengthen their partnership in promoting peace and security regionally and globally.
Dar arrived in Brussels on a three-day visit on Wednesday to co-chair the 7th session of Pakistan-EU Strategic Dialogue.
