Pakistan: NARC Trains 800 Wheat Growers to Increase Production

ISLAMABAD: National Agriculture Research Center has imparted training to more than 800 wheat growers across the crop-producing areas in the country to increase their per-acre production during the current Rabi season.

The training was also aimed at making farmers more competitive in local markets and increasing their income.

Wheat growers’ training areas

So far, the center has organized ten training sessions in various areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Balochistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). During these sessions, the wheat growers were trained on efficient practices of crop management, including fertilizers, water, and use of different pesticides.

Dr. Sikander Khan, National Coordinator Wheat of National Agriculture Center, said that they were also trained in weed management aimed to ensure maximum per-acre production by controlling the weeds.

He said that National Coordinator Wheat of National Agriculture Center had evolved a strategy to train the farmers and other field extension workers. It conducted about seventeen training programs and trained nearly 21,000 farmers across the country.
