ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Tuesday held a telephonic conversation with Myanmar Foreign Minister U Than Swe, focusing on strengthening bilateral ties and discussing regional developments.
According to a spokesperson for Pakistan’s Foreign Office, the two leaders reviewed the current status of Pakistan–Myanmar relations and exchanged views on issues of mutual interest.
The discussion also encompassed the prevailing regional situation, including matters affecting South and Southeast Asia.
The spokesperson added that both sides agreed to maintain close contact in the future to further enhance cooperation and coordination between their countries across diplomatic, economic, and regional platforms.
“They agreed to maintain close communication in future on common issues as well as regional matters,” the Foreign Office statement read.

Growing engagement
Pakistan and Myanmar have historically maintained cordial diplomatic relations, sharing interests in trade, regional stability, and cultural exchange.
In recent years, both countries have sought to deepen engagement on matters such as economic collaboration, border management, and participation in regional forums like the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC).
