ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Myanmar have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation across a wide range of sectors, including religious tourism, people-to-people and cultural exchanges, trade, economy, and science.
The commitment was made during a joint press stakeout by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Myanmar’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Than Swe, following delegation-level talks held in Islamabad on Monday.
In his remarks, the Deputy Prime Minister described the discussions as productive and comprehensive. He emphasized the importance of deepening engagement through sustained, structured, and results-oriented initiatives, particularly to enhance cooperation in capacity building.

Ishaq Dar added that the visit of Myanmar’s Foreign Minister to Pakistan shows the importance that both countries attach to revitalising and strengthening Pakistan-Myanmar relations.
He stressed that all contentious issues should be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy, and highlighted the importance of further strengthening cooperation in academic linkages.
The Deputy Prime Minister noted that Pakistan and Myanmar share cordial and friendly relations, adding that Pakistan greatly values this partnership and remains committed to expanding cooperation across a broad range of mutually beneficial areas.
In his remarks, Myanmar’s Foreign Minister expressed gratitude to the Government of Pakistan for the warm hospitality extended to him during his visit to Islamabad.

A Memorandum of Understanding on Political Consultations was also signed between the Foreign Offices of Pakistan and Myanmar during the visit. Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Foreign Minister of Myanmar Than Swe signed the MOU.
This institutional mechanism will facilitate regular engagement and sustained dialogue on bilateral, regional, and international issues, according to a statement issued by the Foreign Office.

Earlier, the two sides reviewed the full spectrum of bilateral relations and exchanged views on regional and international peace and security.
They also exchanged views on regional and international peace and security, and agreed to remain in close contact on matters of mutual interest.
The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Myanmar, Than Swe, arrived in Islamabad on Sunday on a four-day official visit.
Last week, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, held a phone conversation with Myanmar’s Foreign Minister U Than Swe where both sides stressed the importance of resolving regional issues through peaceful dialogue to ensure stability in the region.
They also agreed to remain in close and constructive engagement on matters of mutual interest.
In recent years, both countries have sought to deepen engagement on matters such as economic collaboration, border management, and participation in regional forums like the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC).
