ISLAMABAD: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has predicted the first snowfall of the season in Murree and the surrounding areas on January 9 (Tuesday).

According to the Met Office, the weather is likely to be cold, with temperatures coming down further in Murree, Galyat, and nearby regions following rain and snowfall on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.

According to PDMA officials, the government was taking all possible measures to avoid any untoward incidents with the commuters and passengers, as it happened in January 2022, when 22 lives were lost due to a snowstorm after they were stranded on the roads around Murree. Reports revealed the tragic disaster happened due to the negligence of local authorities, allowing an excessive number of vehicles (over 13,000) into Murree, surpassing its capacity of 4,000, the official told.

Meanwhile, travelers and visitors, along with their families, have initiated to rush from various districts of Central, southern Punjab, and Sindh towards northern parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), including Kalam, Madain, Bahrain, and Malam Jabba in Upper Swat, to enjoy snowfall.
