ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Morocco are set to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote defence cooperation, marking an important step toward further enhancing bilateral ties.
The MoU will be signed during Pakistan Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif’s visit to the North African state.
Defence Minister Asif arrived in Morocco on Monday on a three-day official visit aiming to strengthen bilateral defence ties, according to an official statement.
He was received at Casablanca Airport by Major General Ahmed Hatuto, Commander of the Casablanca Army, senior government officials, and Pakistan’s Ambassador Syed Adil Gilani.
The defence minister will also meet Morocco’s Minister of State for National Defence Administration, Abdul Latif Lodie, and will also lead delegation-level talks focused on enhancing cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
The statement said the signing of the MoU represents a historic and mutually beneficial milestone in Pakistan–Morocco defence relations.
Under the agreement, an institutional framework will be created to ensure sustained defence engagement and to open new avenues for cooperation in various defence and security fields, including military training, exchange of expertise, capacity building, and other joint initiatives.
It added that the visit reflects the long-standing friendly ties between Pakistan and Morocco and highlights their shared commitment to further strengthening cooperation in defence, security, and other areas of mutual interest.
The bilateral relationship between Pakistan and Morocco is marked by cordial ties and historic fraternity, according to Pakistan’s foreign office.
Last year, the armies of Pakistan and Morocco held the third edition of their joint bilateral military exercise aimed at enhancing the professional skills of their soldiers and promoting defense relations between the two countries.
Pakistan and Morocco maintain a robust and expanding defense partnership, characterized by high-level diplomatic engagement, joint military training, and emerging industrial collaboration.
